He looked into her beautiful, angular face. Tara was an unusual beauty and each time he stared at her, he couldn’t believe his luck.
“You rock my world, babe. You are so lovely, and many times I can’t believe you are all mine.”
She would smile, exposing those beautiful gap teeth. “Adeee, you flatter me so much. Who else would I be with if not you?” She would say.
“You make me a very happy man, my love.” Then he would pause a little and then hesitate before his words came out in that cute stutter. “I-f f only that Efe guy would leave you alone.”
“Babe, I have told you not to worry about him. He is just an old friend. One I have known since my childhood days when we lived in Rumuomasi” She would reply.
One time he had flared up and slapped her after stumbling on the too familiar text message that bastard had sent to her. It had taken the combined effort of his friend, Justus and her cousin, Obaro to get her to accept his pleas for forgiveness and continue with the relationship.
He smiled ruefully as the thought played on his mind. He would never allow that level of jealousy well up within him again. He had to start trusting her more. He knew it. And frankly, he knew Tara would never cheat on him. She was a beautiful girl and many guys would want her for themselves. What did he expect?
He looked down at her again, lying there so peacefully.
He had to be a different man now. No more petty jealousy. He would be more understanding. They would talk issues through rather than let it cause a fight. He would never hit her again. Their relationship would be different from now on.
Ade mulled over this while he cradled her closer to him. But it was all wishful thinking.
One deathly blow had been the end of his lover.
Tara laid in his arms. Dead.
