Today is a special day for me.
I’m thrilled because a book whose concept I conceived about a year ago and worked to bring to reality over the last couple of months is birthing. My journey to the world of creating art through words was borne out a nagging desire to find my path in life. At some point, I was so discontented with my career path and where it was headed that I knew if I failed to take charge of the situation and find something I truly loved doing, I would sink into depression. I had to find purpose or die trying. It was that critical.
And so I started. After plenty of soul-searching and advice from a few more experienced people, I took up something I felt I had a flair for—writing. I started writing professionally six years ago with the launch of this blog. At the time, it was all about the primal hunger to improve my writing skills and see where the road would lead.
I dared to dream, but not too far into the future.
As one who would also rather introspect, it was important that I had an outlet to channel the sometimes riotous thoughts that run through my mind. A space where I could express myself and craft the narrative I wanted without being held back by any external rules, hence, the tagline “An outlet for a restless mind”.
I needed my own platform, and I launched out—amid near-crippling anxiety.
Never did I think that I would one day be in the position to offer advice to other writers or teach writing. But I have grown…how I have grown. My growth is remarkable, but then again, I shouldn’t be surprised because I have put in and continue to put in incredible effort into being the best I can be.
Today, I have hit another milestone on my writing journey.
I have achieved something I have always wanted to do: write a book. And not just any book, but one that epitomises substance and quality. I am hopeful this will be one out of other books to be authored by me. As a fiction writer also, I have my sights set on putting out a work of fiction in the near future.
But until then, I will revel in bringing my current dream to fruition.
