Then They Fell Again

“Livinus, I’m telling you that this time around, things go dey different. This new candidate don talk sey him go dey show face well. Sey all the things wey our community need, him go make sure sey him do something about them when him enter.”

Livinus wasn’t convinced. Over the years, they had heard different variations of the same lie, and at the end of the day, nothing changed. The politicians they had voted in the past had let them down. Once they secured the mandate of the people, they instantly became inaccessible, and now their constituency was a mess. Nothing worked. The roads were in a deplorable state, power supply was worse than ever, children of school age were out of school hawking wares, and the youths were idle.

Revelation

“I have decided to resign, that man is an Ogre,” said Chike.

Some months ago, he was a frustrated unemployed young man. His second class upper degree in Economics had had little impact on his job search. He remembered the last of the many interviews he had attended.

“Mr Onuche, I usually do not disclose this to applicants, but I have been really impressed by your performance. You performed excellently in the test and my colleagues also spoke of how well your interview went. Well done. We will definitely get back to you soon.” The words of the HR Manager of the prestigious Base Oil were music to Chike’s ears.

The Unborn

“I don’t know if this one will live, I am deathly afraid even though the doctors say he is doing just fine,” Ese said to Aunty Stella.

“You have to keep faith, Esosa. Be optimistic, everything will be fine.”

Osahon and his family are growing tired, he tries to hide it, but I see the impatience and fading hope in his eyes”

“Leave Osahon and his people to think or do whatever they like and focus on yourself and the baby.”

Caught

After yet another night spent tugging lightly at the hem of his pyjamas to no avail, I knew my husband was cheating.

Osi was crazy about sex and it had taken a while for me to adjust to his constant need for a tangle between the sheets after we got married. But I had caught up. I had to, I didn’t want my man checking any other woman out on account of my sexual passivity.

So when Uche mentioned she knew some private investigator, I didn’t hesitate to engage his services.

Accident

He looked into her beautiful, angular face. Tara was an unusual beauty and each time he stared at her, he couldn’t believe his luck.

“You rock my world, babe. You are so lovely, and many times I can’t believe you are all mine.”

She would smile, exposing those beautiful gap teeth. “Adeee, you flatter me so much. Who else would I be with if not you?” She would say.

Daughters Of Eve

Happy New Year everyone!!

This year, I’ll be publishing a good number of flash fiction, a genre I have always found fascinating. And for starters, I am introducing “Daughters of Eve” – A story I entered for the JB Afenfia Flash Fiction Contest. Daughters of Eve was the 3rd runner-up out of 125 entries. I really hope you enjoy reading it. And of course, your feedback is always appreciated.

It happened last night. It was one of those Friday nights when my friends and I decided to have a few drinks over plates of pepper soup, and if we were lucky, get some feminine company for the rest of the night.

The latter only applied to Ken and Ayomide, however. I was the shy and reticent one who didn’t seem to have the “bad boy” blood in him.
